Our story.
Cortland started as an innovation consulting firm, helping large energy and industrial organizations find, evaluate, and adopt emerging technology. That work taught us that the technology is rarely the hard part. The hard part is understanding the problem well enough to know what to do.
As AI became a production technology, we built our practice on Anthropic’s Claude and added training and implementation to the innovation work. The discipline stayed the same: listen first, define the problem, then deliver.
We are building our Claude practice as a member of Anthropic’s Claude Partner Network. Our team is certified in Claude, and we’re actively deploying it with customers as we grow our practice.
Philip de la Gueronniere founded Cortland in 2018. Before starting the firm, he spent most of his career delivering technology and innovation programs inside Fortune 500 organizations. The work starts the same way regardless of the technology: interviewing the people who do the job, finding where the constraint actually sits, and being willing to conclude that the answer isn’t the tool everyone assumed. Most efforts fail after the pilot because that work never happened.
His background spans energy and industrial operations, including operational technology environments, maintenance systems, and regulated operations. He has been on the enterprise side of the table, as the person who decides whether an outside partnership or pilot goes anywhere, and he brings that perspective to the organizations and innovation programs Cortland works with.
